JSHS CREATES HISTORY – winner at the CBSE National Level Science Exhibition

The students of Jesus’ Sacred Heart School have made not only Ludhiana city but entire Punjab region proud  by winning at the CBSE National Level Science Exhibition 2015-16 held at Vivekanand School, Anand Vihar, New Delhi.

CBSE conducts this exhibition to bring forward innovative ideas.  The theme for this year’s exhibition was Science & Mathematics for inclusive development.  The participating schools could choose any of these sub themes – Health, Nutirition & Cleanliness, Resource Management, Industry, Agriculture & Food Safety, Disaster Management and Mathematics for a Quality Life.

JSHS displayed its model on “Electromagnetic effects on growth of plants” in the category of Agriculture & food Safety.  Around 200 schools participated at the regional level held in Jalandhar on 11th Dec. 2015.  JSHS won the regionals and bagged the honour of being one of the three city school to represent at the National Level in the CBSE Science Exhibition.

At the Nationals, the school team competed with 377 schools from all over the country including states such as Maharashtra, Kerala, Sikkim, Assam, Tamilnadu, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana etc.  Beating a total of 428 exhibits; 60 of them being in the same category of Agriculture & Food Safety itself, JSHS students were adjudged the best in the entire country in the above mentioned category.

Samya of grade VIII and Ritika of Grade IX under the able guidance of  science teachers have prepared an economically low cost shielding material to cover high tension wires which would block the harmful electromagnetic radations generated by them & increase plant yield.  Smartphone applications like ‘Matlab’ and ‘Origin’ were used to prove the calculations.  These observations were plotted to explain the general effects of electromagnetic radiation on the plants and animal life that includes the diminished radial growth of trees, lowered density of bird species and mammals.

The students were rewarded a cash prize along with Merit Certificates. They will now participate at the 43rd Jawaharlal Nehru National Science Mathematics and Environment Exhibition for children which is organized by NCERT.  The students will also get the opportunity to attend a mentoring camp  & national fair organized by Initiative for Research and Innovation in Science(IRIS).  The Director of the school, Mr. Pawandeep Singh Sehgal and Principal Ms. Kirti Sharma congratulated and appreciated the efforts put in by the facilitators and students for bringing laurels to the entire city and state.  An electrifying atmosphere full of excitement and enthusiasm imbibed among the Jesus’ Heartians over this great news hoping to compete at various national fairs and international levels wherein researchers and scientists of the highest caliber  may approach for taking up projects commercially.IMG-20160210-WA0000
